Catherine Swaine is a stained glass artist living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She designs all her own pieces and produces a variety of glass art, from jewelry to installations. Each item is carefully constructed using the traditional copper foil and leaded techniques. She uses high quality materials and beautiful imported glass. The Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature (in Winnipeg) houses an installation of five panels, designed and constructed by Catherine in 1997 for the Dr. F.A.L. Mathewson Reading Room. The panels illustrate the full range of design and construction techniques used by the artist. (See the photographs on the right.) InStyle magazine, March 2001 (p. 42 & p. 298), features Catherine's jewelry designs. A new interest of Catherine's is creating portraits in glass. The subject can be sketched from drawings, busts or photographs. The portraits are custom-designed and unique -- they make an excellent corporate or personal gift. Catherine welcomes custom-designed commissions. She can render any subject and artistic style in the glass medium with striking and vibrant results. |
